This game looks incredible.
Following in the footsteps of the acclaimed Uncharted series, Naughty God revealed a new trailer for their follow up franchise, The Last Of Us, at this year’s E3.
The game takes place in a post-apocolyptic world reminiscent of Bethesda’s Fallout 3 or perhaps Francis Lawrence’s I Am Legend. Anti-hero and black market dealer, Joel, is sworn to protect the 14 year old Ellie in an unforgiving world overrun by plague. The two will venture across the United States in search of safety as they escape the government, other hostile survivors, and “zombie-like” plague victims.
The gameplay shown at E3 depicts the two protagonists attempting to make their way through an overgrown city. Joel and Ellie react to each other in a fluid manner and their banter seems to occur naturally. The run down environments manage to be beautiful in their destruction and the struggles between the characters and their foes are heavy and slow. It seems like a game meant to suck you in to a realistic world. Ammo seems to be scarce and decisions need to be thought out carefully to survive.
As Joel and Ellie converse with each other I can’t help but feel influence’s from Cormac McCarthy’s novel (also a movie) The Road. The characters seem to have a father-daughter relationship which could potentially draw a lot of emotion.
The combat looks solid, the graphics and environments look stunning, the characters and AI realistic, and most importantly, it just looks fun.
Keep and eye out for this one.
