E3 Preview: Halo 4

At first, I was kind of skeptical about this so-called “Halo 4.”  As the eight installment in the series, Halo 4 will be the turn of a new page. When news broke that the game was officially announced under a new developer 343 Industries, many people turned their heads. Why would Bungie, the ones responsible for making Halo what it is today, call it quits?

Well don’t worry folks, because Halo 4 looks badass. As the first title of a new trilogy of Halo series games, named the “Reclaimer Trilogy,” Halo 4 picks up  after the ending of Halo 3, and marks the return of the Master Chief as the main protagonist. Do you find yourself already close-minded about this one? Well I originally wanted nothing to do with it as well, but after seeing what 343 Industries showcased at E3, my mind completed changed.

Looking like a revamped Halo: Reach, Halo 4 promises to be the best-looking game to date. With sleek new textures and hundreds of new additions to the game, it certainly looks like that Halo we all want to in-vision. The first thing I noticed was how the player models and lighting in the game has improved greatly. No longer will maps and environments look dull and boring like in the past.

Now, a jungle will look, sound, feel, and even smell like one (don’t take my word on that last one). I’m not going to get too into this, because I’ll let the video do justice.

Something new this year is the way the multiplayer will function. For almost every single multiplayer game, the multiplayer is just a different game mode where you can compete against thousands of people in the world- yet it really has no back-story. Now, in Halo 4, the multiplayer will have a purpose. The campaign is directly linked to multiplayer and will serve as a “competition.” Seemingly like training, multiplayer will now be your training ground for your Spartan Soldier. Each player has an infinite spawn and all new Call of Duty-like load outs, changing what has been recently done in the past. What 343 wants to accomplish is this: you’re playing online, trying to win this competition. Everyone there is trying to be the top-dog and come out on top. With weekly episodic installments, 343 is trying to make you feel like you are training your spartan to be the best of the best, not just for stats and points.

With a whole bunch of new specialties added to your soldier, now, we can finally sprint without having to sacrifice using a Jet Pack or a Hologram. I know it may seem confusing now, but there are tons of new things that will make Halo 4 as exciting as ever. Think of this as a mere preview, with more information to come. In the meantime, stay tuned as we will bring you the latest info on Halo 4.
